Good food great cause as Restaurant Week gives back

This is the week for eating good food and supporting a great cause.
"This is a great deal!" says Stephanie March, a food critic with Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine, while enjoying an early breakfast at 3 Squares Restaurant in Maple Grove. "For the first time we've teamed up with a great community partner."

"Restaurant Week" is underway around the metro area and 48 establishments are on board. The week-long event is presented by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine and gives foodies around the Twin Cities a chance to experience local restaurants, try new foods, and receive some deep discounts.

But the fun doesn't stop there. "Restaurant Week" has the perfect community partner.

"We're combining the power of the week and helping out people in need," says March.

Each restaurant is helping to support Meals on Wheels through matching donations, QR codes at each table, and by driving patrons to the website.

"The senior population is booming," says Katey McCabe from Meals on Wheels. "In the next 10 to 20 years it's going to double and that's why delivering meals is so important."

In the seven-county metro area, the organization delivers over 1.2 million meals each year. Thousands of volunteers help to bring daily, hot meals to seniors and people living with disabilities.

In other words, enjoy good food and help support an important cause.

"It's an opportunity to get out and sample restaurants that maybe you haven't hit before or places you've been dying to try," says March. "High-end, mid-scale, casual, Japanese, Thai, American...a lot of great restaurants are involved."
